Maryville celebrates 50 years as an All-American City

The City of Maryville celebrates the 50th Anniversary of being awarded the All-American City honor by the National Civic League.

The award is bestowed to communities that exemplify civic engagement and collaboration, innovation, diversity and inclusiveness, and impact that lead to strong community based solutions. Maryville City Manager, Greg McDanel says the award is the most prestigious honor a community can have.

"It's an award given to communities who continue to partner with their community organizations and certainly something we've been successful at the last 50 years.  So City Council is going to celebrate this accomplishment over the last 50 years through pillars of industry, education, health care, business and community.  It's something we're really going to try to bring back as part of our identity."

McDanel says that stories of Maryville's government, education, healthcare, and more is what drew the attention of the National Civic League.

"Northwest Missouri State College at the time identified growing their enrollment from 1200 in 1960 to over 5000 in  1969.  St. Francis Hospital was in the middle of a $3 million dollar new facility construction, and Maryville RII school district was doing a great job expanding their vocational education program.  So these stories of success with our pillars of our community continue today."

The City of Maryville will be working with media, citizens, and organizations to celebrate the last half-century of successes and urges everyone to celebrate the continued efforts to exemplify the work and values that make an All-American City.
